A deportation flight to Afghanistan departed Friday morning from Leipzig/Halle Airport, marking the first such operation in nearly a year. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt of the CSU confirmed the flight took off around 8:30 AM local time, headed for Kabul.
According to official sources, the aircraft carried 81 individuals, characterized by the Minister as “serious and particularly serious criminals.
The last deportation of Afghan offenders occurred in late August of the previous year, also originating from Leipzig/Halle Airport. At that time, 28 men were repatriated with the assistance of Qatar, which has previously facilitated dialogue between Western nations and the Taliban regime.
Deportations to Afghanistan remain a contentious issue, driven by concerns over potential human rights violations and uncertainties surrounding the rule of law within the country. The Taliban regime, currently in power, has not been formally recognized by the Federal Republic of Germany or most other states worldwide.
