AfD Seeks Professional Image

The AfD party leader, Tino Chrupalla, has described recently introduced conduct guidelines for the AfD parliamentary group as a step towards “professionalization”. Speaking to RTL and ntv, he emphasized the necessity of differentiating between speeches delivered at demonstrations and those given within the Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament.

Chrupalla stated that a modified public image is crucial for a party aspiring to take on responsibilities within the country. He acknowledged the AfD’s position as the strongest opposition party and affirmed that establishing internal regulations is a natural consequence. According to Chrupalla, these guidelines, which have been tightened, are designed to facilitate this adjusted approach.

The party’s ambition, he asserted, is to govern, a goal he anticipates achieving in the near future. A key aspect of this transition involves distinguishing between online echo chambers and the decorum expected of parliamentary addresses. Chrupalla views the discussions surrounding the new guidelines as a crucial element of internal development and professionalization, expressing confidence that the party is progressing favorably.

Responding to questions about the specifics of the conduct rules, Chrupalla reiterated the importance of a distinction between demonstration speeches and parliamentary addresses, noting that this adjusted approach aligns with the expectations of the party’s increasingly supportive electorate. The revised protocols, he confirmed, received broad support within the parliamentary group.
