Germany is set to significantly bolster its cybersecurity defenses and enhance civil protection measures, according to recent statements made during a parliamentary budget debate.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt emphasized the urgent need to improve the nation’s capabilities in countering drone threats, highlighting the necessity of re-establishing comprehensive warning systems. He underscored the importance of defending Germany within the cyber realm, identifying it as a primary area of contention in the evolving landscape of hybrid threats.
Beyond cybersecurity, Dobrindt announced substantial increases in funding for civil protection initiatives. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) will see its budget rise by 50 percent next year, while the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance will experience a threefold increase in funding. These measures, Dobrindt stated, signal a fundamental shift in approach to civil protection and disaster response.
