The German government maintains standard communication channels with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group, mirroring the interactions typically held with other opposition factions, according to a government spokesperson.
Speaking to the dts news agency in Berlin on Friday, government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius confirmed that regular parliamentary inquiries and established communication pathways exist between the federal government and the largest opposition party. This approach, he stated, aligns with the customary practices within the German parliamentary system.
Regarding a specific protocol – the prior distribution of the Chancellor’s policy statement text to the largest opposition group during the budget week – it remains uncertain whether this practice will continue under the leadership of Friedrich Merz (CDU). Kornelius indicated the matter is currently under review and has not yet been definitively resolved.
