Deutsche Bahn Revises Stance on Family Reservations Amidst Renewed Criticism
The German railway company, Deutsche Bahn, is adjusting its position regarding family reservations, citing concerns over misuse of the previously complimentary seating. According to a report in Handelsblatt, an internal communication addressed to the transport committee characterizes some parents as engaging in “abusive” practices with the reservation system.
The railway initially discontinued the free family reservations in early June, a decision that drew significant criticism from families and political figures. This latest development is now generating further controversy.
The internal memo states that observations over the past several years indicated an increasing tendency to exploit the family reservation program. Deutsche Bahn alleges instances of excessive booking, multiple reservations and small groups utilizing the offer in a manner inconsistent with its intended purpose. The company also highlighted the need for cost savings.
