Dröge Slams Merz's Border Policy

Green Party parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge has sharply criticized Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) regarding his border policy. In an interview with the “Spiegel” magazine, Dröge stated that Merz’s policies are detrimental to cooperation with Germany’s European neighbors. She suggested that the Polish government would not tolerate what she termed a “provocation” from Merz.

Dröge argued that while Merz frequently advocates for European unity, his actions are creating instability. She emphasized the severity of current international crises and the need for a German Chancellor to actively foster EU cohesion rather than division. Dröge asserted that a viable solution lies in a unified European asylum policy, rather than individual national approaches.

The criticism comes after the Polish government announced on Tuesday its intention to re-establish controls at the German border. This decision was reportedly justified, in part, by the stricter border policies implemented by the new German government.
