The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has experienced a slight decline in voter preference following their recent federal party conference and the election of new leadership, according to a new opinion poll.
The survey, conducted by the Institute Insa and reported by “Bild” newspaper, indicates that if a federal election were held next Sunday, the SPD would receive 15.5% of the vote. This represents a decrease of 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous week.
Conversely, the Union (CDU/CSU) has gained 0.5 percentage points, reaching 27.5%. Both the Alternative for Germany (AfD), currently at 23.5% and the BSW party, with 5%, also saw gains of 0.5 percentage points. The Left party (Die Linke), with 9.5% and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), with 3.5%, each lost 0.5 percentage points. The Green Party maintained its previous week’s result, standing at 11.5%.
“Without the AfD, only coalition governments involving three parties would secure majorities” stated Hermann Binkert, head of Insa, in comments to “Bild”. He emphasized that while the CDU/CSU remains the strongest party, it faces potential competition from the FDP, AfD and SPD, with each having the potential to draw support away from the Union.
The opinion poll, commissioned by “Bild”, surveyed a total of 2,008 citizens between June 27th and 30th.
