A young German striker, Youssoufa Moukoko, has left Borussia Dortmund and joined the Danish champion FC Kopenhagen with immediate effect, the club announced on Saturday.
Moukoko, who was previously on loan at OGC Nizza, had made a significant impact at Borussia Dortmund, playing for the first team and even earning a call-up to the German national team. However, his development had recently slowed, according to the club’s sport director, Sebastian Kehl.
In a statement, Moukoko expressed his gratitude to the club, saying it was not easy to leave Borussia Dortmund, but he was looking forward to a new challenge and the opportunity to restart his career with optimism and determination.
Moukoko joined the Borussia Dortmund youth academy at the age of 11 and went on to win the German U17 Championship in 2018 and reach the final in 2019. He scored a total of 141 goals in 88 U17 and U19 games and became the youngest Bundesliga player in November 2020, the youngest Champions League player in December 2020 and the youngest Bundesliga scorer in the same month.
After making his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund in 2020, Moukoko went on to score 18 goals in 99 games and won the DFB-Pokal in 2021. He then moved to Nizza on a loan in August 2024, where he made 22 appearances and scored two goals in the recently concluded season.
