German SPD’s New General Secretary Expresses Shock Over Klingbeil’s Poor Election Results
The newly elected SPD General Secretary, Tim Klüssendorf, has expressed shock over Lars Klingbeil’s poor showing in the re-election for the SPD chairmanship. In an interview with the news channel “Welt” on Saturday, Klüssendorf said he was initially taken aback by the outcome, stating, “At first, it did hit me and that’s something that doesn’t leave you emotionless in the moment, but rather, you’re naturally perplexed because I didn’t expect such a result in that way.”
Klüssendorf believes the strong emotions displayed during the election, particularly the disappointment and frustration, were a direct result of the party’s historically poor election results. He emphasized that it is now crucial to regain the trust of the party’s members and delegates.
The General Secretary is seeking answers to the party’s current challenges, acknowledging a loss of trust that has been developing over the past two decades. He believes this issue cannot be solely attributed to the previous coalition government, but rather is a long-term problem that requires a re-evaluation of the party’s direction and approach.
Klüssendorf highlighted the pressing issues that the party needs to address, including the current global situation, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the AfD party and the need for a comprehensive discussion on these topics. He emphasized the importance of continuing the debate and finding answers to the many challenges the party is facing.
