German Parliament’s New Head of Oversight Committee Emphasizes Strengthening of National Resilience and Intelligence Services

The newly appointed head of the Parliamentary Control Committee of the German Bundestag, Marc Henrichmann of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has identified a crucial task for the committee as bolstering the resilience of Germany and, by extension, its intelligence services.

According to Henrichmann, the committee’s primary objective is to strengthen the nation’s resistance to threats, a goal that he believes many people outside of the political sphere are still not fully aware of. “I want to strengthen the resilience of Germany” he told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. “I think many people out there still don’t know how multifaceted the threat landscape is.”

The CDU politician went on to stress the importance of having effective intelligence services in today’s times, which he believes need to be stronger and better equipped. To achieve this, the committee must discuss the measures necessary to ensure that these services remain at the forefront of the times and are less dependent on other powerful services.
