20 Procedures Piling Up in Karlsruhe

The German Federal Constitutional Court is currently dealing with around two dozen lawsuits involving the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. According to a court spokesperson, who spoke to the Rheinische Post, there are currently 20 ongoing proceedings at the court in which the AfD is involved, either as a party, a faction, or through individual members of parliament.

Of these, the AfD faction is involved in 15 of the cases, all of which are organ dispute proceedings. These types of cases arise when the Constitutional Court is called upon to resolve disputes between the highest federal authorities, determining the rights and duties in accordance with the Basic Law. Even parliamentary factions or individual members of parliament can assert their rights in organ dispute proceedings.
