German Greens’ Parliamentary Leader Signals Support for Left’s Heidi Reichinnek in Parliamentary Oversight Committee
In a significant development, the Parliamentary Leader of the German Greens, Irene Mihalic, has indicated that the party will support the Left’s Heidi Reichinnek for the Parliamentary Oversight Committee (PKGr).
Mihalic emphasized the importance of the committee in these “tense times” as mandated by the German Constitution. She stated, in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that the candidates vying for the position need the trust of the majority of the Bundestag members. The Greens, as a party, will support candidates from all democratic factions, Mihalic added.
The Left has nominated Reichinnek for the committee, but it remains uncertain whether she will secure the necessary majority in the Bundestag, given opposition from the Union. The prospects of AfD candidates Martin Hess and Gerold Otten also appear uncertain.
