Berlin's 5 Billion Euro Boost to Arrive in 2028!

According to reports from the German publication Welt and Business Insider, the federal government has outlined a plan for the new mothers’ pension, with the first payments not expected until 2028.

The black-red government has allocated an additional five billion euros for the mothers’ pension in 2028 and the same amount for the following year, as per the approved financial planning until 2029. The Federal Ministry of Finance confirmed the start date of 2028 in response to an inquiry, with a spokesperson for Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) stating, “Yes, that is the current plan.”

The CSU had pushed during coalition negotiations for the expansion of the so-called mothers’ pension III, which will now benefit insured women whose children were born before 1992, allowing them to receive the same three pension points per child as mothers with younger children, rather than the current 2.5 points. The German Pension Insurance had previously expressed skepticism over a 2026 start date, citing the need for extensive programming and quality assurance work, which would require a significant amount of time.
