Israeli Security Expert Warns of Unrealistic Regime Change in Iran
A former Israeli general and security expert has expressed skepticism about the possibility of a regime change in Iran, warning that it could lead to a power vacuum and chaos, similar to the situation in Libya. Israel Ziv, a 67-year-old former operations chief of the Israeli Army, made the remarks in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” in his residence east of Tel Aviv.
Ziv cautioned against the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying that the person who would take his place could be even worse. He emphasized the need for Israel to weaken the Iranian regime’s apparatus of power, not just its nuclear program, in order to delay the return of the program.
The expert also urged the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to end the Gaza war, which he claimed has cost the country significant international support. “We need international support now more than ever, as we are engaged in a war with Iran” Ziv said.
