A senior official of the Thuringian Constitutional Protection, Stephan Kramer, has strongly criticized a fundamental paper signed by several SPD politicians, who advocate for a reorientation of defense policy and talks with Russia.
According to Kramer, who is also a member of the SPD, the historical lesson is that appeasement and pacifism have never been effective measures against aggressors and war. He fears that this has not changed.
While the longing for peace is a human and political desire, Kramer believes that the “Manifest” is fundamentally important and right. However, he emphasized that President Putin has consistently demonstrated that war is a means for him to achieve his political goals.
Kramer’s conclusion is straightforward: in order to preserve our liberal western democracy and its fundamental and human rights in the future, we must be prepared and capable of defending it vigorously, even with the use of force, against attacks from within and outside.
