Britain’s Consumer Prices Show Slight Softening in May Inflation Rate
According to the UK’s Office for National Statistics, the annual inflation rate in May 2025 stood at 3.4%, a slight decrease from the 3.5% recorded in April. The monthly increase in consumer prices for the fifth month of the year was 0.2%, a minor adjustment from the previous month.
The core inflation rate, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, remained higher than the overall index, but at a minimal level, at 3.5% in May, a slight decrease from the 3.8% recorded in April.
The transport sector was the main contributor to the downward adjustment in the annual rate, while the food and household goods sectors were the main drivers of the upward pressure on prices.
