Ukraine Reports Multiple Fatalities in Russian Airstrikes on Kiev and Odessa

In the early hours of Tuesday, a series of Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital of Kiev and the southern city of Odessa resulted in a significant loss of life, according to Ukrainian authorities. At least 14 people were killed in the attacks, with a further 44 individuals injured in Kiev, stated Ihor Klymenko, the Ukrainian Interior Minister.

Additionally, there were six reported injuries in Odessa, as well as one in the Kiev and Chernihiv regions. The Ukrainian authorities reported that a total of 27 locations in Kiev were hit, including residential buildings, educational institutions and critical infrastructure, as outlined by Klymenko. Emergency responders, law enforcement and medical personnel are currently on the scene, working to assist the victims and clear the rubble.

The airstrikes coincided with the ongoing G7 summit in Canada, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was in attendance, scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump. However, Trump unexpectedly announced his early departure from the summit due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. According to Klymenko, one of the fatalities in Kiev was an American citizen.
