Germany to Intensify Cooperation in Syria, Minister Says
Germany has remained committed to its engagement in Syria, even under the most challenging conditions, said Reem Alabali-Radovan, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, in a recent statement. The minister emphasized the importance of the country’s stability, which can have a positive impact on the entire region ravaged by crises and conflicts.
Alabali-Radovan expressed her intention to intensify Germany’s engagement in Syria, particularly in the post-December 2024 transition period, when a new government took office. She highlighted the fragile situation in the country, stating that a stable Syria can have a positive ripple effect on the region.
The minister also appealed to the Syrian community in Germany to participate in the country’s reconstruction efforts. She believes that the diaspora can play a crucial role in the rebuilding process, alongside the German government’s increased engagement in the region.
Alabali-Radovan emphasized the need to address the root causes of flight, announcing her intention to focus on this issue as a minister. She stressed that migration cannot be tackled in isolation by a single country, as crises and conflicts do not stop at national borders.
The minister also emphasized the importance of international cooperation and partnership, highlighting the need for a global approach to address migration issues. She emphasized that, while border control is essential, it is equally crucial to recognize the need for skilled workers from abroad, which Germany requires.
Furthermore, Alabali-Radovan stated her intention to strengthen Germany’s cooperation with Syria’s neighboring countries, such as Lebanon and Jordan, in order to tackle the complex issue of migration. She believes that a more open and cooperative approach is necessary, rather than a solely national one, to address the challenges of migration and the need for skilled workers.
