In the wake of Israel’s military strikes in Iran, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has altered the course of his ongoing Middle East tour. According to a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Wadephul will travel to Saudi Arabia following his stop in Egypt. This change in plans comes after the Israeli military launched attacks on targets in Iran, reportedly taking out several high-ranking military officials, in what the Israeli government described as a “preventive strike” against the Iranian nuclear program.
Iran has since threatened retaliation, with reports indicating the launch of numerous drones in the direction of Israel. The original plan for Wadephul’s tour had included a visit to Israel, where he was to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip. It remains unclear whether this leg of the trip will still take place.
