German Intelligence Chief Warns of Growing Terror Threat in Germany Amid Escalation between Israel and Iran

Germany’s domestic intelligence chief, Stephan Kramer, has expressed concern over the rising threat of Islamist-motivated attacks in the country, particularly in the wake of the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. According to Kramer, the Iranian government may utilize its known networks, including the “Axis of Resistance” to carry out terror attacks against Jewish or Israeli institutions, as well as Western supporters of Israel.

The Islamist-jihadist threat in Germany has been “persistently high” for a long time, Kramer emphasized and the country must prepare for the possibility of proxy attacks carried out by Tehran-backed terror groups. It is also conceivable that Iran could use domestic Islamic extremists to carry out attacks, the Verfassungsschützer warned.

Kramer’s concerns extend beyond the threat of physical attacks, as he believes the Iranian government aims to create a climate of fear in Western countries, ultimately weakening solidarity with Israel. The intelligence chief also noted the exchange of drones and expertise in hybrid warfare between Iran and its ally, Russia.

Moreover, Kramer is worried that pro-Iranian sentiment may spread among Palestinian communities in Germany, potentially escalating the conflict on German soil. The “Axis of Resistance” includes Palestinian groups, the intelligence chief pointed out, adding that Germany is already experiencing regular violent outbursts and overt anti-Semitism at public gatherings.

Antisemitic incidents have already increased and Kramer fears that the threshold for violent behavior will continue to drop, posing a significant threat to the country’s security and social cohesion.
