German Politician Warns Israel of Losing International Reputation
In a recent interview, Michael Kretschmer, the Deputy Leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Minister-President of Saxony, expressed concerns over Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip and its recent military operation against Iran. Kretschmer cautioned that Israel, as a democracy and the rule of law, must not risk its international reputation by engaging in a cycle of violence.
The German politician emphasized the importance of proportionality in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that even Israel can make mistakes and get it wrong. He also highlighted the growing sentiment among the German public that Israel, as the only democracy in the Near East, must not compromise its reputation.
Kretschmer’s remarks came in response to the recent military operation against Iran, which he described as a “big spiral of violence.” He urged Israel to take a more measured approach, arguing that Germany, as a strong advocate of Israel, must make its position clear in a way that emphasizes the need for proportionality in the conflict.
