German Health Minister, Nina Warken, has announced that parts of the investigation report on the procurement of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic will be made available to the German Bundestag. Warken stated that the ministry will report its findings to the budget committee, including the results of the special investigator, Margaretha Sudhof.
The minister emphasized that, in her view, this should have happened during the previous legislative period under the then Health Minister, Karl Lauterbach of the SPD. Lauterbach had appointed Sudhof to investigate the mask procurements during the pandemic. The 170-page report, according to media reports, is expected to primarily implicate former Health Minister, Jens Spahn, who was in office until the end of 2021.
The coalition agreement between the SPD and the Greens had also agreed to further examine the pandemic in general. Warken signaled her support for this, stating that the findings will also play a role in the Enquete Commission, which will be established to investigate the pandemic. The ministry will set up a project group to ensure quick responses to inquiries, Warken announced.
