Billion-Euro Scandal Exposed?

In a recent Twitter post, the leader of the German Green Party’s parliamentary group, Britta Haßelmann, called for the release of an internal report on the procurement of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report, which is said to detail the billions of euros in taxpayer funds spent on mask purchases, has yet to be made public.

Haßelmann expressed her discontent, stating that the report should be published in its entirety and without any redactions. She claimed that the lack of transparency is particularly egregious given the significance of the issue, with the potential losses to the federal budget and taxpayers potentially greater than those associated with the controversial car toll introduced by former Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer.

The Green Party’s demand for transparency comes after a special commissioner was appointed in the previous legislative period to oversee the investigation and clarification of the mask procurement process. Haßelmann emphasized that the report is crucial in shedding light on the responsibility of former Health Minister Jens Spahn and the decisions he made during the pandemic.

The party’s leader accused the current Health Minister, Nina Warken, of hiding the report, calling the move “scandalous.” The Greens are now urging the minister to release the report, demanding that the truth behind the mask procurement process be revealed to the public.
