German political tensions escalate as CSU leader criticizes Pro Asyl

In the midst of a heated debate surrounding the rejection and entry of three Somali asylum seekers, the leader of the CSU’s parliamentary group, Alexander Hoffmann, has sharpened his accusations against the refugee organization Pro Asyl.

In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, Hoffmann stated that Pro Asyl appears to be acting like “Pro Smuggling” and urged the public prosecutor’s office to take a closer look at the matter. He emphasized that it is unacceptable for asylum activists to provide instructions on how to commit asylum fraud.

The Administrative Court in Berlin had earlier ruled in a preliminary decision that the rejection of the three Somalis at a border control at Frankfurt (Oder) railway station was unlawful. Without a clarification of which EU country is responsible for processing the asylum application of the affected individuals, they should not have been turned back. The three asylum seekers were initially sent back to Poland, but are now back in Berlin.
