A Glimpse of a 'Good Deal' in Store?

Washington, D.C. – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking officials, concluded a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Oval Office without any major hiccups. Trump, known for his candor, praised Merz’s English skills, to which the Chancellor humbly thanked the President for the honor of staying at the official guest house.

The atmosphere was surprisingly harmonious from the start, with Merz presenting Trump with a birth certificate of the US President’s German great-grandfather, Friedrich Trump, dated 1869. Trump, in turn, commended Merz on his diplomatic efforts, joking that the Chancellor was a bit “difficult” to work with, a remark likely intended to be lighthearted.

Reporters subsequently focused on major global issues, including China, Putin and the Ukraine war. Trump, known for his verbosity, dominated the conversation, often straying from the topic at hand to discuss internal US politics. Merz, however, seized the opportunity to discuss the Ukraine war, urging Trump to take action to bring an end to the conflict.

“We need to put an end to the killing” Merz emphasized, citing the staggering figure of 5,000 weekly fatalities. Trump responded, “We’ll discuss it and the timing is good.” The US, having invested more in Ukraine than Europe, must go beyond mere financial support, he added.

Following the meeting, Merz is scheduled to meet with members of the US House of Representatives, before conducting interviews with CNN and Fox News. The Chancellor’s plane is expected to touch down in Berlin on Friday morning, just a day after his arrival in Washington, D.C.
