German politician Cansin Köktürk was removed from the Bundestag on Wednesday due to a Palestine-printed t-shirt.
According to Bundestag President Julia Klöckner, the rules of the House are clear, stating that neither stickers nor any other forms of expression on clothing should play a role. Klöckner had privately requested Köktürk to change her shirt and the matter was not made public. However, as Köktürk apparently refused, the Bundestag President decided to expel her from the session.
Köktürk, who was wearing a shirt with the inscription “Palestine” left the hall after the decision. On her way out, she called out to Klöckner, echoing a similar incident involving Left Party politician Marcel Bauer, who was removed from the Bundestag for wearing a hat with a logo, later announcing he would temporarily forgo the emblem.
