The European Commission has announced that Bulgaria is ready to join the Eurozone, with a potential introduction of the single currency set for January 1, 2026. This milestone would make Bulgaria the 21st member state to adopt the Euro, a significant step towards its integration into the European Union’s monetary system.
According to the EU Commission, the assessment is based on the Convergence Report 2025, prepared at the request of the Bulgarian authorities, which presents a critical and historical step in Bulgaria’s path towards the introduction of the Euro.
The Euro, the second most widely held reserve currency in the world after the US dollar, has seen Croatia join the Eurozone in 2023, marking the most recent addition to the group of member states using the single currency.
