Poland's Polarization Threatens Europe's Unity

Polish Society Divided, Weakening Europe, Says German Politician

German politician Norbert Röttgen, a member of the Christian Democratic Union, has expressed concern over the deep political polarization in Poland. In an interview with the Funke-Mediengruppe, Röttgen stated that the Polish society is split into two equal halves, with neither side willing to compromise. This deep division, he believes, has not only national but also European consequences, weakening both Poland and the European Union and ultimately benefiting only Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Röttgen’s remarks come as Poland prepares to elect a new president, with conservative EU skeptic Karol Nawrocki expected to take the office. It is anticipated that Nawrocki will block potential reforms, continuing the course set by the current president, Andrzej Duda. This development may pose a significant challenge to the liberal-conservative government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
