German Parliament’s President Julia Klöckner Expresses Concern Over Government’s Absence in the Chamber
In a recent letter to the Chancellor’s Office, German Parliament’s President Julia Klöckner (CDU) has expressed her concern over the lack of presence of the federal government in the parliamentary chamber. According to a report by Politico, Klöckner stated in the letter that she has been observing a sparse attendance of government officials in the plenary sessions, particularly in the early weeks of the new legislative period.
Klöckner emphasized the importance of a continuous and adequate presence of the federal government in the chamber, citing it as crucial for a lively and constructive dialogue between the executive and legislative branches. She urged for changes, suggesting that at the very least, two federal ministers should be present in the chamber during every plenary session.
The Parliament’s President and the parliamentary factions share the same view on the matter and Klöckner has thus requested the Chancellor’s Office to take measures to ensure a lasting and effective representation of the federal government in the Bundestag’s sessions.
