A devastating fire broke out in a hospital in the Hamburg district of Hohenfelde in the early hours of Sunday, claiming three lives and leaving a trail of destruction. According to the fire department, 18 people with severe injuries and 15 with minor injuries were rushed to nearby hospitals, with one person’s life hanging in the balance.
The blaze, which started in a patient’s room on the ground floor, threatened to spread to other areas of the hospital. Due to the thick smoke, several individuals were unable to leave their rooms. A total of 220 emergency responders from the fire department, rescue services and technical assistance teams were deployed until the early morning hours to evacuate patients and extinguish the fire.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to other rooms. Hospital staff assisted in the rescue efforts. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear.
