German Green Party Chief Felix Banaszak has expressed opposition to a complete halt of weapon deliveries to Israel. According to him, Israel should, for instance, still have the ability to defend itself against Iranian air attacks. In an interview with RTL and ntv, Banaszak stated that Israel has been existentially threatened since its founding and that many countries have an unfavorable view of the country. He also emphasized the Iranian regime’s intent on destruction, saying that Israel should not be left defenseless in the face of such a threat and that the right to self-defense is essential.
At the same time, Banaszak acknowledged that weapons previously delivered to Israel have also been used in the Gaza Strip, where the number of civilian casualties continues to rise. In this context, he called for a more nuanced approach in the debate.
