German Politician Warns of Social Unrest Over Migrant Influx in Social Benefits
Jens Spahn, the newly appointed leader of the Union’s parliamentary group, has expressed concerns about the rising number of migrants in Germany’s social benefits system, warning that it could lead to social unrest.
According to Spahn, the growing proportion of individuals with a migration background and a short duration of stay in Germany in the social benefits system will not be sustainable in the long run. He described this trend as “social time bomb” that the government must address to maintain social harmony.
Spahn emphasized the need to ensure a minimum existence for all citizens in Germany, but also stressed the importance of the principle that those who are capable of working should do so, or risk losing their benefits.
The German government currently allocates 52 billion euros annually in the federal budget for social benefits, with Spahn urging for a more controlled increase in this spending to avert potential social unrest.
