Schnieder's Summer Plan Unveiled!

German Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder has announced that he will present proposals for the further financing of the Germany ticket before the start of the parliamentary summer break in mid-July.

Schnieder, a member of the Christian Democratic Union, told the Rheinische Post that the goal is to present concrete financing modalities for 2026 to the federal cabinet. He emphasized that he will handle the matter with the required thoroughness, just as with all other issues.

Meanwhile, the Saarland Transport Minister, Petra Berg of the Social Democratic Party, has called for a Bund-Länder meeting to be held as soon as possible to agree on the key points, in order to start the legislative process and complete it by October. Oliver Krischer, the Green Party’s Transport Minister in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, suggested that the federal government could provide planning security by untying the ticket, fixing the price at least until 2028 and legally fixing the state’s share.

According to the coalition agreement between the Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats, the parties had agreed to continue the ticket, which is currently financed equally by the federal government and the states, after 2025. The ticket currently costs 58 euros.
