US Readiness for Trade Conflict Resolution Welcomed by German Finance Minister

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has expressed hope for a swift resolution to the ongoing trade conflict, citing the importance of finding common solutions. In an interview, he emphasized the need for a joint approach, stating, “We must find common solutions. The uncertainty on the markets, the uncertainty in international trade is there. It endangers the economy on both sides, endangers jobs and the clear signal at the G7 meeting is that we must find solutions and that must happen quickly.”

Klingbeil also highlighted the importance of strengthening transatlantic cooperation, while acknowledging the need for contingency planning in case a resolution is not reached. “We must prepare for the worst-case scenario, but that’s not the preferred option. We know that if that’s the case, the economic developments on both sides will be at risk” he said.

The finance minister also discussed the G7 meeting’s unified stance on supporting Ukraine, with all parties agreeing to increase pressure on Russian President Putin to achieve a ceasefire. “It’s a clear signal of unity, also of joint action within the G7” he noted, adding that financial support for Ukraine remains available.
