German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has invited Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to Germany. During a meeting in Rome on Sunday, Carney reportedly promised to “follow the invitation as soon as possible” according to the German government. The meeting took place prior to the celebrations for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV. During their conversation, both parties reportedly had an in-depth discussion about Ukraine, trade relations and energy cooperation. Carney took office as Prime Minister of Canada on March 14th.
