Karin Prien: More Women Needed in German Cabinet

Karin Prien, the Vice-Chairwoman of the CDU and newly appointed Federal Minister of Family, has described it as “bitter” that in the coalition committee of the black-red coalition, with the exception of Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD), only men are expected to be present. When asked if she was upset that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had appointed more men than women to the cabinet, Prien told the Funke Media Group: “I come from a cabinet in Schleswig-Holstein that is equally staffed. My experience is that gender-balanced teams work better. We should continue to strive for this goal.
