The number of unauthorized entries into Germany has significantly decreased, according to internal figures of the federal police, reported by the “Welt” newspaper. So far this year, approximately 22,170 cases have been recorded, a substantial decline compared to 2024 (83,572) and 2023 (127,549). The agency refers to a clear downward trend.
Bundesinnenminister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) recently ordered tightening of border controls and rejection of asylum seekers, except for cases involving children and pregnant women, when they enter from a safe third country. According to an internal note, 51 asylum applications have been recorded since the implementation of this measure.
“The tightening of border controls and the consistent application of national law are a success and reduce the migration pressure that has long overwhelmed Germany” stated the deputy chairman of the German Police Association, Manuel Ostermann. The introduction of temporary border controls in September 2024 under the then-Innenminister Nancy Faeser (SPD) contributed to the alleviation of the situation.
The Union fraction in the Bundestag also welcomes the decline and emphasizes the need for continued action. “There can be no talk of warning being lifted regarding illegal migration” said the deputy CDU/CSU parliamentary group chairman Günter Krings. “Germany has also been a major target country in recent months. This situation must come to an end.
