Sachsen-Anhalt’s Ministerpräsident, Reiner Haseloff, has strongly opposed the initiation of a ban against the AfD party. In an interview with the “Tagesspiegel” newspaper, he stated that the party is “a major force in large parts of the East” and warned of a potential “solidarity effect” if a ban were to be imposed. He emphasized, “Imagine the group entering a state government – how should we then ban governments?” Haseloff has previously stated that if the party were to achieve an absolute majority, it would first happen in Sachsen-Anhalt. As a result, he believes that good politics will win back their votes.
Haseloff criticized the new federal government’s adherence to climate goals, stating that the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2045 is hardly achievable. He called for a “thorough revision” of the “Green Deal” and emphasized that climate protection should not be a form of economic suicide. He demanded the abolition of the solidarity surcharge this summer.
Regarding the possibility of softening the relationship between the Union and the Left Party, Haseloff advocates for pragmatism in procedural matters. However, he sees no reason to revise the general CDU separation resolution. “The Left Party wants to overcome this republic along with capitalism. Or look at the contentious definition of anti-Semitism. I do not want to have normal relations with such a party” Haseloff said.
