To secure its return to the German Bundestag in the next election, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) is planning to develop a new basic program. This was announced by Henning Höne to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Thursday edition), who will be running for the position of deputy party chairman at the upcoming party conference.
According to Höne, the FDP needs a new basic program. He plans to involve not only party members but also critics of the FDP in the process of developing this new program. “We need to think in longer terms again, have courage for big questions and act as pioneers who dare to make uncomfortable reform proposals” said Höne.
Höne is the leader of the largest FDP state association in North Rhine-Westphalia. The party will convene its federal party conference in Berlin on Friday and Saturday. Christian Dürr is running for the position of party chairman, seeking the successor of Christian Lindner. The liberals had last developed a basic program in 2012.
