Crafts President Calls for Unity and Focus on Implementation in New Government.

Jörg Dittrich, the President of the Central Association of the German Crafts (ZDH), hopes for a constructive government work and less conflict from the new federal government. “The new government should focus on implementing concrete points from the coalition agreement where there is agreement, rather than immediately diving into divisive policy areas” Dittrich told the “Handelsblatt” (Thursday edition). Disagreements have already emerged between Union and SPD on issues such as the minimum wage, pension policy and handling of the Left Party. For example, Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) proposed including civil servants, members of parliament and self-employed individuals in the statutory pension insurance. Although this idea is present in the SPD election program, it is not included in the coalition agreement. Dittrich expressed his confusion over the proposal. “As Labor Minister, Ms. Bas is not only accountable to SPD members, but she must primarily think about the big picture and take state policy responsibility” said the crafts president.
