Baden-Württemberg Offers Massive Aid Package to Save Mannheim's University Hospital from Financial Ruin.

The Baden-Württemberg state government has once again approved a support package for the Mannheim University Hospital. A spokesperson for the state’s Minister of Science, Petra Olschowski (Grüne), confirmed a cabinet decision in response to a query from the “Mannheimer Morgen” newspaper: “The Ministerrat has today approved a further bridging financial support of up to 59 million euros for the hospital.”

According to the cabinet document, efforts by the hospital’s management and the appointed turnaround manager to reduce the “unacceptably high deficits” are being urged with emphasis, all in the interest of a smooth transition to the desired mother-daughter structure with the state-owned Heidelberg University Hospital.

As reported by the “Mannheimer Morgen” the share of the Mannheim-based municipal government in the hospital management company should be reduced to just 10.1 percent, with the Heidelberger Uniklinik taking over the remaining 89.9 percent.
