PKK Announces End of Armed Struggle and Calls for Peace and Democracy

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an outlawed workers’ party, has decided to dissolve its organizational structure and end armed struggle at its 12th congress, according to reports from the Kurdish news agency ANF. The PKK stated that it has fulfilled its “historical mission” by breaking the policy of “denial and annihilation” against Kurds and paving the way for a “democratic solution to the Kurdish question.” However, the organization also announced that political work would continue in the future. The PKK called on all political parties, civil society organizations and the international community to support the process of peace and democratic society. They emphasized the need to restructure the relations between Kurds and Turkey and called on Turkey to promote a democratic solution. The PKK called for the participation of all social groups in this process to create a “just and equal future.
