Left-wing Leader Calls for Abolition of Capitalism, Blames It for Democracy's Decline

Heidi Reichinnek, the leader of the Left Party faction, has reinforced demands from her party for the abolition of capitalism. “We want to abolish an economic system in which the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer” she said at the federal party congress of the Left in Chemnitz on Friday.

Reichinnek emphasized that such a system needs to be abolished, regardless of what conservatives, neoliberals, or the right claim: such an economic system has nothing to do with democracy.

“If it’s radical to demand that everyone gets what they need to survive, if it’s radical to demand that rights and freedoms apply to everyone and no one is excluded or attacked: then yes, we are radical. Then one must be radical in these times” explained the Left Party politician.

Those who, in talk shows, falsely claim that the biggest threat to the cashier is the neighbor who receives a basic income “endanger the democracy” argued Reichinnek.

“What unites us is more than what divides us. We have the power to change something by asking about property and distribution and we do it together” said the leader of the Left Party fraction.
