Elon Musk wants the Twitter lawsuit not to start until 2023.
Elon Musk’s legal team has responded to Twitter’s lawsuit against him, saying the company is seeking an expedited process. In response, Musk’s team has requested that the process not begin until next year.
Twitter has asked for the process to begin in mid-September, justifying their request to speed things up since the deal between Musk and Twitter to merge the companies has an October 24 deadline for completion. However, Musk’s team has requested that the process not begin until February 13, 2023, as the earliest date.
Twitter declined to comment on the case, citing the initial complaint they filed on Tuesday.
Twitter sued Musk earlier this week after he formally attempted to back out of a deal to buy the company worth about 44 billion euros.
Almost immediately after he said he would back out of the deal, Twitter chairman Bret Taylor said his company would take Musk to court, and in fact the company sued him on Tuesday.
Musk had not responded to the lawsuit as of Friday, although he did tweet on Tuesday.
Musk’s main reason for his request to end the merger agreement is that Twitter has not provided him with enough data to make an independent assessment of the spread of fake accounts and “spam” on the Twitter platform, they said. Musk’s legal team announced last week.
While on July 19, there will be a hearing of 90 minutes in which it will be decided when the judicial process between both parties will begin.
