Friedrich Merz, the new Federal Chancellor of Germany, believes that the difficult start of the current black-red coalition does not negatively impact future cooperation within the federal government. In an interview with RTL, Merz stated, “I want us to just govern without pomp and without unnecessary frills. We should work together effectively, which is why we call our coalition ‘Responsibility for Germany.’ We are working diligently and that is what the majority of voters expect from us.”
Merz further emphasized, “I prefer this to the start of the last government with a very high approval rating. The mood became worse over time. I believe that we now have a realistic assessment from the voters. They are skeptical about whether we can achieve our goals. I tell my colleagues who have joined me in this federal government, who have recently been sworn in: we must deliver now.
