The SPD has named its ministers for the upcoming black-red federal government. According to the party’s leader Saskia Esken, she will not receive a portfolio in the upcoming Ressortverteilung. Her co-president Lars Klingbeil will become the Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor. The only constant from the previous government is Boris Pistorius, who will remain Defense Minister. The Ministry of Labor will be taken over by Bärbel Bas from Hubertus Heil. The former East Germany Commissioner of the federal government, Carsten Schneider, will become the Environment Minister. The second East German in the SPD ranks will be Reem Alabali-Radovan, who was previously the Integration Commissioner and will now become the Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. Esken was also rumored to be vying for this position but apparently lost out to Alabali-Radovan. The Justice Minister will be Stefanie Hubig, who previously worked as a State Secretary under the former minister Heiko Maas. Verena Hubertz will be responsible for the construction sector. The Commissioner for East Germany will be the Thuringian Elisabeth Kaiser, while Natalie Pawlik will work as State Minister for Migration, Refugees and Integration.
