Severe Thunderstorms Ravage Central and Southern Germany, Causing Flooding and Damage

Severe thunderstorms are currently affecting central and southern parts of Germany on Saturday afternoon and evening. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a corresponding severe weather warning. The affected areas initially include parts of the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Hesse. The severe thunderstorms are expected to move eastward from the west and later also reach the northern parts of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Additionally, the DWD warns that individual severe thunderstorm events are possible in the southern half of Bavaria. In the night, the focus of the thunderstorms will shift to the south with a weakening effect. The DWD warns that there is a risk of flooding of cellars and streets, as well as damage to buildings, cars and agricultural crops due to hail and local lightning damage is possible.
