The Police Association (GdP) is calling for a unified approach from the federal government and states in reviewing AfD members in the police force. “The announcement by the interior ministers to discuss this at the Interior Minister’s conference in June is absolutely right” said the president for the area of federal police, Andreas Roßkopf, to the “Rheinischen Post”. Roßkopf added: “A nationwide unified approach is absolutely necessary here.” This should be agreed upon by the states and the federal government. Regarding the federal police, the union leader stated: “So far, there is no approach from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and also from the leadership of the Federal Police.” It is clear that police officers must “ensure that they are always willing to fight for our liberal democratic order.” After the Verfassungsschutz (constitutional protection office) classified the AfD as a secure right-wing extremist party, Hesse and Bavaria have already announced their intention to review AfD members in the state service. This is also expected to be discussed at the next Interior Minister’s conference.
