Christian Dürr, a candidate for the FDP party chairmanship, has proposed appointing tech entrepreneur Nicole Büttner as the party’s general secretary. In an interview with the newspapers of the Funke Media Group, Dürr stated, “If I am elected party chairman at the federal party congress, I will propose the position of general secretary.” He expressed his excitement about Büttner’s decision to become his running mate, calling her a successful entrepreneur in the AI field and a 20-year member of the FDP. Dürr explained that he wants to take new paths and that in the past, it was mostly professional politicians who were in the forefront, not just in the FDP. With Büttner, he has now secured a profiled and active entrepreneur for his team. The future FDP presidency will consist of “equally experienced and new faces” Dürr announced. Büttner is an entrepreneur and investor in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), having founded the Berlin-based AI company Merantix Momentum, where she serves as CEO. She studied in Switzerland, Stockholm and Stanford (California, USA) and is a member of the board of the German Startups Association. She describes herself as an “entrepreneur, economist and tech optimist.” In 2019, she ranked 10th on the FDP list for the European election but missed a seat.
