Former German Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) has proposed a dual budget for 2025/2026 and a later start to the parliamentary summer break. As time is running out, it would be logical to “consider a dual budget for 2025/26” Bas told the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday edition). This should now be “quickly clarified” by the parliamentary groups. The summer break could start “later than usual” with the budget committee having previously held meetings in July or August. “A budget decision requires time for consultation” Bas said. “But we don’t have all the time in the world.” Citizens and businesses need planning security. All three future governing parties want to quickly create the basis for “our economy to finally grow again” said Bas. “Our investments must flow. The infrastructure program must take effect.” She emphasized the need for growth potential to secure jobs and the social state. “People should feel: something is happening.” This feeling must develop in the first months of the government and it must not take years.
